Arthopods

The Grasshopper: 

Phylum: Arthropoda; Class: Insecta

3 distinct features that Arthropods have include; an exoskeleton, made up of carbohydrate chitin. The exoskeleton provide protection. They are bilateral symmetrical, and jointed appendages, jointed legs. Some interesting facts about Arthropods are that Ancestral arthropods were the first land animals. Grasshoppers have ears on their bellies, and they can also fly using their powerful legs to jump and then using their wings.

Jasmin Dhaliwal - Squid (Cephalopod)

This is a squid we got to observe during a lab dissection, a mollusk from the phylum Cephalopod. What I found most interesting about the squid was that it has 8 arms and 2 tentacles and how they use them to grab and hold onto their prey. Also how it has an inc sac that it uses when it is in danger was really fascinating. It releases a jet-full of ink in the way of its predator, so they can get away. This animal is useful in its environment because it acts like both, a predator and prey. 

 

This picture shows the interal and external parts of the squid. We got to see some of them, the tentacles and arms, the inc sac, the siphon, the eyes and mouth.
